What is Coaching and is it right for you?

What exactly does a life coach do?
A life coach acts as a mentor and accountability partner, helping clients identify goals, develop skills, overcome obstacles, and create actionable plans for personal or professional growth. They focus on future-oriented strategies rather than diagnosing issues.

How does life coaching work?
Life coaching typically involves regular sessions, typically weekly or bi-weekly, where the coach helps clarify goals, brainstorm solutions, and provide accountability through tools like action plans or role-playing. Sessions last 60 minutes and emphasize client-driven change.

What do life coaches help you with?
Life coaches assist with areas like career advancement, relationships, self-confidence, stress management, and habit-building, helping clients find purpose and balance.

How is a life coach different from a therapist?
Life coaches focus on goal setting, motivation, and forward progress, often addressing practical life changes without delving into past traumas or mental health diagnoses. Therapists, who are licensed professionals, treat emotional healing, mental health conditions, and past experiences using evidence-based methods. While both can support well-being, therapists are regulated for clinical issues, whereas coaches are not.

Should I see a life coach or a therapist?
Choose a life coach for actionable, future-focused support on goals and habits; opt for a therapist for mental health concerns like anxiety or trauma. Both can complement each other. Start with a therapist if symptoms are clinical.

Are life coaches legit?
Yes, many life coaches are legitimate and effective, especially those with certifications from recognized organizations. Ethical coaches focus on results. It is important that you feel safe with your coach.

Should I get a life coach?
Consider a life coach if you're feeling stuck, want goal-oriented guidance, and are looking to break free from recurring patterns in your life. If you need motivation for positive changes, coaching can be an excellent choice, but coaching is not for severe mental health issues. Coaching is particularly helpful during life transitions and challenges such as weight loss, moving to a new location, marriage, divorce, or building habits.

Are life coaches covered by insurance?
Generally, no, as life coaching isn't considered a medical treatment; insurance typically covers therapy for diagnosed conditions, but not coaching.
